Cheryl McLim

I am a graduate student working on my Master of Leadership in Global Christian Education (MLGCE) from Prairie College. I also work at Prairie College as the Registrar. I started working in the Registrar's Office in 2004 and in July 2021 I took on the Registrar position. I love my job because I get to support students, faculty, and staff in accomplishing their goals.

My Journey

My home is Alberta. I have lived here almost all my life. I am a small town girl preferring the prairies more than anywhere else! I came to this small town of Three Hills when I was 15 and it was a refuge for me. After finishing college I left for a few years but I came back with a husband and a couple of kids. It was the perfect place to be to raise a family. Our last son joined our family after a few years of living here. I love to travel and visit other places on this awesome planet we live on and experience different cultures but it is always good to come home.

I started working at Prairie as a Transcript Clerk. It was the perfect job for me! I worked a couple of hours a day but could be home for my young family the majority of the time. In 2004 I was asked to work full-time in the Registrar's Office as the Assistant Registrar. The experience I have gained over the years prepared me for the position of Registrar. I assumed the role of Registrar in July of 2021.

I strongly believe in biblical education not only as general education but at the post-secondary level. It is very important for young people to have a firm foundation of Scripture as they start their adult life. At Prairie, we want "to know Christ and make Him known". Before we can teach others about Jesus, we have to know Him ourselves which means that we must be life-long learners. I am thrilled that I get to be a part of this mission at Prairie! I am not a teacher of the main message at our college but I support those who do teach. The Registrar's Office is a central hub keeping all the details in place which allows everything to run smoothly. I am taking the MLGCE program in order to be a better Registrar and to be able to better participate in the mission of Prairie College.

My Interests

For my capstone project in the MLGCE, I am interested in researching the role the Registrar plays in Student Retention. The number of students we have has been steadily declining. We have invested a significant amount of resources in recruiting our students and when they don't return for a second year, we have lost that investment. Student retention is a campus-wide problem and I want to discover how the Registrar can help each department with what they are responsible for. The Registrar's Office is one piece of the puzzle and I want to discover where that piece fits.
